A must do if its open !(Usually opens mid to late July) An "advanced" hike with steep sections utilizing iron rungs. An incredible view and extremely unique. Go early or late in the day to miss the crowds.

The Precipice is part of the East face of Champlain Mountain. The Precipice Trail is the most challenging and well known hiking trail in Acadia National Park with an exposed and almost vertical 1,000 foot climb. The Precipice happens to be home to many endangered Peregrine falcons. Consequently the hiking trail may be closed from late spring through mid August.

As Acadia goes, there are not too many 'advanced' hikes. Most take a couple hours up and down, but Precipice Trail has you hiking over large granite stones that have been situated on the trail as steps as well as metal bars to hold onto to maintain balance in spots. It is fun, but if what I just said may make you faint, maybe hold off and find an easier trail.
