Weeksville Heritage Center is a historic site in the NYC Weeksville is one of America's first free black communities during the 19th century. Within this community, the residents established schools, churches and benevolent associations and were active in the abolitionist movement. Great piece of history!
Weeksville was a free community of African-Americans established in 1838. A completely fascinating history embedded in the fabric of the city.
