Rush is a ghost town located in The Buffalo River National River Park. Prospectors originally came to the area for what were thought to be silver deposits, which were discovered to be zinc. It was soon one of the most prosperous cities in the state and during World War I, Rush was the center of the mining industry in Arkansas. At the end of the war, as zinc prices declined so did Rush. Mines closed, the population began to disappear. In 1972 Rush was officially declared a ghost town and became part of the Buffalo National River Park system.

Rush is an old abandoned mining "ghosttown." The valleys of the Buffalo River and its tributaries, Rush and Clabber Creek, define the topographical patterns at Rush Historic District. Steep hillsides and rock outcroppings are prevalent throughout the site, along with oak and hickory forests. Highly recommend coming to sight see and do some hiking. Clabber Creek is definitely a must visit as well!

Personally, this place is a must. So much of our family history lies in this ghost town and the mines of Rush. Byron's Grandpa owned the Silver Run Mine and we love sharing stories and history of the area. Fun swimming in the cold Rush Creek for the kids. This is also another access point to the Buffalo River.

A day spent in Rush never disappoints! Take a step back in time as you tour a loop of the remains of what was once a booming mining town in the hollows just above the Buffalo River. As you walk from site to site reading the history behind each one, you can't help but try to transport yourself to that time and place and visualize it in it's heyday. Located far from modern day civilization, scattered remains and mere traces are all that remain for the most part to tell the story of this once bustling hotspot.

Consider a ghost town, Rush was a mining boomtown when zinc ore was discovered there in the 1880s. Nice hike around historic ruins dating from 1880-1940.
