An important Hawaiian ceremonial site shows some of ancient Hawaiians' laws and practices. The park offers restrooms, a small gift shop, tours of the ancient grounds and interpretation led by guides. Parking is available for a fee. Right next to sacred grounds is Two-steps, a great snorkelling spot for snorkelers.
Spiritual sanctuary for Hawaiian culture and history. Also known as the City of Refuge. Please be very respectful when visiting this park. It's the burial grounds for Hawaiian royalty.
This is right next door to 2-step which has amazing snorkeling. This is a city of refuge is where those who broke the law could have a second chance at life. There is also royal grounds with a temple that once houses the bones of chiefs.
Beautiful historical park in a lovely setting beside the sea with lots of interesting Hawaiian history and artifacts. Pro tip, if you have a national park pass and you can’t find parking next-door at the two step beach for snorkeling, you can use your park pass to get in here and park for free (otherwise $10). Then it is just a short walk over to the two step beach where there is a great snorkeling.

We highly recommend visiting this park (a.k.a. Place of Refuge). It is a magical and culturally significant location. The Parks department has done a beautiful job maintaining this site. They have really interesting structures, carved tikis, and artifacts. We suggest also visiting The Coffee Shack while you're in the area. They are a great breakfast/lunch spot but they close early so check their hours.
