The palace of Nestor is just 5 km away. It was an important centre in Mycenaean times, and described in Homer's Odyssey and Iliad as Nestor's kingdom of "sandy Pylos".

At a distance of 14 kilometers from today's Pylos, closer to the village of Chora is the Palace of Nestor or Palace of Nestor. It is a central palace of the Late Hellenic Period, surrounded by a fortified enclosure. A two-story building that included storage areas, laboratories, bathrooms, skylights, reception areas, and a central drainage system and is located on the elongated hill of Epano Egliano. It is the most well-preserved Mycenaean palace that has been discovered so far. During its excavation, approximately 1,000 Linear B tablets were also identified. Many artifacts dating back to 1300 BC were also discovered. The palace complex used by King Nestor was completely destroyed by fire around 1200 BC..
