“The cathedral of St James was built in the 15th century. It is a Unesco monument since 2000. The stonemasons Juraj Dalmatinac and Nikola Fiorentinac in the construction used the prefabricated stone elements and thanks to the mounting technique built the cathedral. On the apse (northeast), you will find a line with 71 human heads. That is a unique example in the renaissance architecture. Those heads probably represent local people. The most beautiful part inside is the baptistery, situated below the south apse. If you would like to visit the interior of the cathedral, you need to buy the entrance ticket. ”

“St Michael fortress (60 meters above the sea level) is the oldest fortress in Sibenik. The fortress is the core around which the town of Sibenik developed. The oldest preserved parts of the fortress date back from the 13th century, but most of them are from the 15th and 16th centuries. Today, the fortress is the most beautiful stage on the Adriatic. Very often in the summer months, the concerts are organized there. If you would like to visit the fortress you need to buy the entrance tickets. The prices and opening hours are listed on the official website tvrdjava-kulture.hr. Inside you will find a small museum, remains of the cisterns, bread oven, and cannonballs. From the fortress, you will have a beautiful view to the cathedral below, St Anthony channel and islands in front. ”

“The fortress of St Nicholas is the Unesco monument. We are very proud that in Sibenik we have two Unesco monuments, the cathedral, and St Nicholas fortress. If you would like to visit the fortress, please take the boat. More information about the boat timetable, pier location, and entrance fee you can find on the official website kanal-svetog-ante.com/en. The boat ride takes approx 30 min (one way). It is not possible to see the fortress from the town center since it is situated on the other side of the St Anthony channel. The fortress was built in the 16th century on the island Ljuljevac, where once stood the benedictine monastery of St Nicholas. The purpose of the fortress was to defend the town from enemies - Ottomans. During the boat ride, you will have a nice view to the old town and its fortresses. ”
