Greek Orthodox church. Most famous in Corfu. Its bell tower is the highest spot of the town. The locals have deep faith in Saint Spyridon, who is considered the keeper of Corfu. Inside the church, which is located just behind Liston, there are the remains of the saint. According to the local customs, his remains are carried around the town of Corfu in a very peaceful litany four times a year to celebrate his miracles (Palm Sunday, Good Friday, August 11th, first Sunday of November). The litanies are accompanied by the local bands and they remain a strong tradition on Corfu. It is worth to notice the famous "Sky", the roof of the temple, which is divided into 17 parts with gold frames.

The most famous religious monument of the city, a building clearly influenced by the Italian ecclesiastical art, is on Kalohairetou Street in front of Heroes Square, the famous Plakada of Agios. There is the Relic of the Patron Saint and patron saint of Corfu, Agios Spyridon, who was transported to Corfu from Constantinople after the fall in 1453. After the fall of the city, the monk Gregory Polyeuctus, in his attempt to save the relics of Saint Spyridon, as well as the relics of the empress - Saint Theodora, hid them in bags of straw in order to transport them to Mount Athos. However, various events took place on the road, as a result of which he reached Paramythia, where he found his fellow priest Georgios Kalochairetis and handed him the Holy Relics, so in 1456 they arrived in Corfu. Since then the sanctuary of St. Spyridon changes many owners and is bequeathed, or given as a dowry to each other. It is transferred from church to church with the risk that at some point it will be transferred to Venice until it finally passes into the possession of the Voulgaris family. The Family managed in 1577 to be granted a space by the Venetian authorities, in which the current church of Agios Spyridon was built, where the holy relic of the Saint remains to this day. According to tradition, the Saint saved the inhabitants from epidemics in the past and twice from the raids of the Turks in 1673 and 1716. The roof of the temple depicting scenes from the life of the Saint and the Evangelists is impressive, The relic of the Saint is kept in a silver shrine of the 19th century and is a sacred heirloom of the church and a reference point of the religious faith of the Corfiots.
