Interesting place to visit if you have extra time. Discusses history of using love oak trees for building old U.S. Navy ships in the 1800's. Some nice walking trails and picnic areas.

Our national seashore, located about 7 miles from home, is perfect for bird watching and outdoor hikes.

The National Seashore is a vast expanse of preserved land fronting the Gulf of Mexico, Pensacola Sound and Pensacola Bay. Fort Pickens National Park is at the far west end of Santa Rosa Island, the Beach, and is accessible by car or boat. Overnight camp grounds on the sound side include RV and tent camping areas, a public bath house and a cooking pavilion. Reservations are required. Biking, hiking, kayaking, fishing, bird watching and historic tours of the fort are popular at Ft. Pickens.
