The Ancient city of Minoa was one of the most important centers of human life and activity on the island throughout prehistoric times. A city rumored to have been built by the mythical King Minos and his Cretan architects and which served as his secret escape. The defensive wall from the Geometric period and the 4th century B.C. Gymnasium building can be made out. The foundation of a sanctuary from the Geometric period has been preserved at the peak of the acropolis. Minoa is located in Moundoulia hill, above the port of Katapola.
