Not all historical sites are in suburbs far from settlements. The Ketawanggede site is proof of that. The Ketawanggede site is located in the middle of a very densely populated city, next to Brawijaya University, Malang. The location is right in the parking lot of the Mc Donald fast food restaurant on Jalan MT Haryono. In a place with a fence, the Ketawanggede site is collected and consists of several andesite stones shaped like stone gongs, pieces of miniature temples, and two Yoni made of damaged andesite stones. The box-shaped Yoni by the local community is more often referred to as a mortar box. The Ketawanggede site is a relic of the Hindu religion, Batu Gong which later became the name of the Watu Gong village. It is estimated that the existence of the Ketawanggede site is a relic of the Kanjuruhan Kingdom. A kingdom that is thought to be the oldest in East Java with a famous ruler named Raja Gajayana. Experts estimate that there are other relics in the vicinity, such as a temple, but the search was not carried out because the land there was already wholly owned by the fast food restaurant. Although news of the existence of the Ketawanggede site only appeared in 2012, in fact, the site was already in Dutch records in 1907 and 1927, according to the records, the stones were strewn on the side of the road before being collected and stored in a cupola. Reportedly, there used to be three phalluses, a Ganesha statue and a Nandi ox statue. Now its existence is no longer there because it has been stored in the Museum and Ketawanggede Village Building. Unfortunately, the ignorance of the people in the past about historical objects also made stones as big as gongs crushed and then used to make houses, and all that was there were leftovers. Meanwhile, Malang Disbudpar stated that the existence of the Ketawanggede site had been investigated. However, the Disbudpar municipal government did not transfer it to the Mpu Purwa Museum because the owner of the fast food restaurant stated that he wanted to carry out maintenance.
