This place is a field of barren 'A'ā lava rock. It's a place to visit because of its importance in Hawaiian history. In 1819 Kekuaokalani and his wife Manono died in a battle here fighting to retain the old Hawaiian religion of Kapu after Kamehameha II abolished the Kapu System. After King Kamehameha II and Prime Minister Ka'ahumanu embraced Christianity, it became the official religion of Hawai'i.
