Although archaeological remains are impressive, they are seldom recognized as specific structures such as houses, churches, workshops, etc. In this way, much is lost on the fascination of the public. In the case of Ename, visitors see a labyrinth of partly preserved architectural remains. These are the foundations of the Benedictine abbey that dominated life in Ename from 1063 to 1795. The remains of the early medieval trading settlement (975-1050) are no longer visible; after all, they mainly consist of soil tracks that are excavated during the excavation works.

In Ename ademt zowat het ganse dorp geschiedenis uit! Er is de archeologische site met de restanten van een benedictijnenabdij, iets hogerop is er het beschermde Bos t' Ename, in het dorp vind je de prachtig gerestaureerde Sint-Laurentiuskerk en als verzamelpunt van alle informatie: het provinciaal archeologisch museum of pam Ename. En dan zwijgen we nog over wat je niet ziet: ooit stond hier een burcht die de grens van het Duitse keizerrijk moest beschermen. In het museum vind je hier het verhaal van terug.

Het Provinciaal Archeologisch Museum is een Gallo-Romeins museum in het Belgisch dorp Velzeke, deelgemeente van Zottegem. Het belicht de prehistorie, de Gallo-Romeinse tijd en de vroege middeleeuwen in de provincie Oost-Vlaanderen.
