Beautiful hike through the woods to shoreline. You can cross to Barred Island at low tide, just make sure you keep track of the tide for your return.
It feels like you’re walking through a fairyland. At low tide you can walk across the sand bar to the island for more views and granite perches. There is about a 6+ hour window to traverse the sand bar but do pay attention to the tides!
This place is magic and well worth the drive to Deer Isle/Stonington! A mile walk through a mossy fairyland delivers you to a gorgeous sand beach and protected island accessible at low tide via a sandbar. Swim in the refreshing, clear shallow ocean after the short hike in on a hot summer day and you will have experienced the very best of coastal Maine!
