To visit Umbria & not see Assisi would really be a shame, famous for the breathtaking Basilica di San Francesco, San Rufino with its beautiful square, Santa Chiara, it’s well hidden Roman amphitheatre, Eremo delle Carceri & so much more!

Assisi is a hill town in central Italy’s Umbria region. It was the birthplace of St. Francis (1181–1226), one of Italy’s patron saints. A 90 minute drive from Gelsi Villa you will find the city and the Basilica of St. Francis, a massive, 2-level church, consecrated in 1253. Its 13th-century frescoes portraying the life of St. Francis have been attributed to Giotto and Cimabue, among others. The crypt houses the saint’s stone sarcophagus.

Just 60 minutes Assisi is an Italian town in the province of Perugia in Umbria. It is known for being the city where Saint Francis, patron of Italy, and Saint Clare were born, lived and died.

Religious or not, Assisi must be part of your visit to Umbria. Beautiful churches, Giottto's frescoes. Avoid visiting during the weekend. It is a very touristic city, people visiting from all over the world. best time to visit, early morning or late afternoon.
