Visit the Cathedal, if it is Sunday you will find out that the streets are closed to walk. Lots of events are ongoing all day long and they rent bicycles.

Then main square in Merida has free wifi in the park and houses the biggest church in the city. A lovely spot to cool off in the shade and take in the sights and sounds of the city.

The Grand Plaza is a true cultural experience. Just sitting in the park and people watching is great. If you can make it there for the weekend instead of a week day, do it. Street performers (especially on Sunday) and live music, awesome street food. They do close off the side streets so you can amble around as you like in the Plaza, or to any of the bars and restaurants surrounding.
