Recreational activities are abundant here: hiking, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, hunting, camping, and mountain biking. 1,036 acres.

Grab your kids, pups, and brew a cup of coffee. Then, load up the car and drive 5 minutes to the parking lot for Hickok Brook Recreation Area. This is our go-to for a before-work hike with our dog. It can be flat or hilly (depending on the trail you choose) and we rarely see anyone else when we're there. It's not the most scenic choice for a long hike (I prefer the Rio Reservoir, Tusten Mountain, or Port Jervis Watershed), but its convenience makes it tough to beat for a 45-minute break between meetings or an early morning endorphin boost.

This natural area with a lake offers camping, hunting, boating & a variety of multi-use trails. The 1,036-acre Hickok Brook Multiple Use Area features multiple use trails, Hickok Brook, a small pond and ample parking areas and designated campsites found along the road and near the pond. The gate into the property opens May 1st and remains open until winter conditions make the road impassable as determined by the Forest Ranger.

Hickock Brook Multiple Use Area is located in Eldred. We always park at the first spot just off Barker Road and walk down to the pond and back. But there are several trails, even though they're no well maintained. There is supposedly one around the pond (1.9 miles).
