Right next door. A green and shady oasis in the middle of a desert city, this is the Central Park of Tucson. Giant eucalyptus, Alleppo pines, palm trees and mulberry trees spread their welcome shade over acres of green grass. Near the middle of the park, a waterfall splashes down a heavily planted hillside to a lake that attracts waterfowl and kids with toy boats. Man-made hills rise to encompass seating for the outdoor DeMeester Performance Center, where free programs include orchestras, blues bands and Shakespeare. The zoo coddles a variety of animals in natural habitats.
