Beaches of Isle of Palms are spectacular. If your looking for a ton of people and action then go near the windjammer and front beach. If you want to be away from all of that , drive away from it and pick a place to park near a beach access. You should be able to spread out and find a quiet spot without all of the crowds. Follow parking and drinking laws as the police are strict.

Parks & Nature

Go visit Fort Moultrie and its 171 years (1776-1947) of seacoast defense. Get there by car and walk around the park alone or go in office and ask about a guided tour. Also don't miss Fort Sumpter where the civil war began. It's harder to get too(bye boat only) but well worth it. Fort Sumpter tours runs trips out of Patriots Point in Mt Pleasant a few times a day. Great way to see Charleston Harbor also.

Arts & Culture

Sweetgrass basket makers along hwy 17. Truly one of a kind art! One of the few places in the world to see this. Descendants of the slaves to the coastal areas still weave and make the same baskets there ancestors did. Amazing art and artists. Drive down hwy 17 north out of mount pleasant and wait until you see the old sweetgrass basket stands on the side of the road. They are old rickety shacks with lots of character you cant miss them. Just find one that is occupied and go take a look at the baskets.
