Sightseeing

Nelson's Landmark cathedral. This site was first used for a church in 1842. The building of the first Nelson cathedral established Nelson as a city in 1858. The current stone cathedral was built in 1925 as a replacement for the earlier, wooden cathedral. It is used as a place of worship and as the centre of many community and civic events. It has absolutely beautiful, unique acoustics and an elaborate, English gothic design.
