Food Scene

This Hammersmith café was set up by five friends. It should get quite a bit of custom from those heading to and from London Olympia – it's just over the road. Savoury items on the food menu include salads such as Thai beef with white cabbage, red onion, tomatoes and broccoli in a lime, ginger and soy dressing, and sandwiches filled with honey-roast ham, emmental, rocket and a honey-mustard dressing, or crayfish with sliced avocado rocket and lemon mayo. Breakfasts sandwiches and pastries also feature.

This Earl's Court creperie isn't just about the crepes – visit here and you'll get the chance to snaffle on waffles, sundaes and homemade ice-cream, too. It's a colourful spot that looks like it should be a hit with kids (they get their own menu). There's certainly plenty of choice on the menu, ranging from the recognisable to the adventurous. That means crepes Suzette, crepes with lemon and sugar, crepes with Belgian chocolate and crepes with Nutella alongside crepes with fruits de mer, crepes with asparagus spears in a peppered butter cream sauce and crepes with chicken, peanut butter, cheddar cheese, onions and olive oil.

Flower-filled exterior aside, there’s nothing fancy about this local favourite. From the well-worn furniture to the order-at-the-bar chalkboard menu, it’s all very familiar. In summer, outside is the place to be, a young after-work crowd spilling into the good-sized courtyard. Inside, with its candlelit tables and open fireplace, is more suited to cosy winter catch-ups, the homely vibe only tarnished by the undeniable whiff of bleach. The food has a homespun feel too, with portions on the massive side and a Mediterranean-inspired menu that may not be particularly inventive, but is generally appealing with a good range of seafood, steak and pasta dishes.

Situated equidistant between Fulham Palace Road and North End Road, and just around the corner from The Queen’s Club, The Colton Arms was always a pub for locals and luvvies. Manys the time Billy Connolly held court over in the corner, and his first road manager is still a regular of an evening.
