Heavy traffic
Traffic gets pretty heavy on the parkway during the weekend. Just expect it and don't let it ruin your trip. I would say plan your day accordingly. Know where you're going and what time. Getting into Gatlinburg earlier or during the week would be better.

Have them with you just incase you stop somewhere and need them.
Depending on the time of year, you may need clothes for the summer or winter.
Even though you are in the mountains, it is still Tennessee and in the summer it will be hot!
If you are traveling to the smokies in the winter time, pack your winter gear.
