Welcome to Chinatown in Milan!

Le Guide ai Quartieri

Milan, a city of curiosity, vivacity, bustle, style... Milan and its Chinatown. Around it, there are countless places, shops, colours... So, we thought of gathering some addresses that we like, that we find interesting and that speak of us, of our way of feeling about this city, this neighborhood. This is our experience, which we are pleased to share with our guests... Around Paolo Sarpi, the pedestrian street in the north-west area of the city, our Chinatown winds its way lively and colourful between recently renovated railing houses and typical 19th-century buildings. The neighborhood reflects the modernity of the Milanese spirit, adding its oriental charm to this typical area of old Milan, a must-see for creative people and those curious about style and food. Just a few minutes on foot or by public transport from other strategic locations, it stretches from Porta Volta and Parco Sempione with its Civic Arena, to the Isola district, another hub of creative Milan.and Parco Sempione with its Civic Arena, to the Isola district, another hub of creative Milan.

If you are looking for something more structured, but very cool, special mention goes to Ramen a mano, in via Lomazzo, 20, (the street that more or less cuts via Sarpi in half), which, as the name says, is dedicated to ramen according to the original recipe: the queues outside, both of Italians and Orientals, confirm the goodness of this delicious little place... Little gem: you can watch the cooks rolling the ramen live, from the counter to your plate!

We're in Italy, how could we miss... pizza? Whether it's takeaway, or at the table, and there's room outside too!, the place is at Mimmo's, in via Albertini 2 (the little square in the direction of Parco Sempione). It's a family-run place, very friendly and helpful, the service is fast and the costs are reasonable, just as a pizzeria by the slice should be. And the pizza is excellent, plentiful and at a great price, in our opinion the best deep dish pizza in all of Milan.

For an appetiser or an after-dinner drink, we certainly recommend the ever-popular historic wine shop Cantine Isola, in Via Sarpi 30, an institution in the area since 1896, which offers a varied and high quality selection of wines, accompanied by delicious snacks.

And let's not forget SarpioTTo, in Via Sarpi 10, informal and cozy, with a large outdoor space, furnished in vintage and design style. It is open from morning until late at night for brunch, or for a drink, we recommend their delicious "quadrotti"...

Between Via Messina and Procaccini, don't miss a trip to the legendary Fabbrica del Vapore, a former industrial area which produced material for the railways and the first trams in Milan! Restored to its former beauty, with its large windows, Art Nouveau decorations and bas-reliefs, it hosts exhibitions, events, concerts and workshops in an area of 30,000 square metres.

Coffee books and much, much more

Located at the end of Via Paolo Sarpi, close to the Porta Volta district, you will find the new headquarters of the Fondazione Feltrinelli; an amazing pyramid-shaped building, made of glass and steel, that extends over five floors. Don't miss the bookshop and its very pleasant cafeteria overlooking a green area equipped with benches and a children's play area, paths and bicycle lanes that connect with those already existing in the surrounding areas, which we recommend! for a quiet break, right in the city centre, as we like it!
