A gravel walking path is right next door, at the end of the circle, The gravel path quickly leads to a utility road that runs along a creek. Going left or right will get you on the Huckleberry Trail, a 13.75 mile paved rail trail connecting the towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg for walking and riding.
If you go right, the utility road leads to Peppers Ferry Road and a connection to the Huckleberry Trail at the mall or cross Peppers Ferry by the pedestrian bridge that goes towards Christiansburg.
If you take the utility road to the left, you go about a 1/2 mile along the creek and there is a path off to the right that will take you to the Huckleberry Trail . Please note, once you go past the Clifton Neighborhood, the land to left is posted but you are free to keep on the utility road trail to the right. It is a lovely peaceful walk along the creek. There is a path that goes off to the right that will get you on the trail but it is also a nice walk to continue on the utility road path.
Electric bikes can be rented via Gotcha’s ROAM e-Bike Share system (for about $15 for a daily pass).

Floyd is a unique place and this is a gathering space for bluegrass jam sessions and dancing (Friday Night Jamborees). Also home-baked goods available.

A must see if you like to hike and love the beauty of nature. Cascade Falls, in Pembroke, Giles County, is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Virginia (or anywhere for that matter). It’s about 25 minute drive down Route 460. Take a picnic. It is about a 2-mile hike to the falls. Make sure you take the path that follows along the stream on the way up since this trail is the most scenic. Many water holes along the way. And, if you like trout fishing take your pole but have a license. Trillium, wild flock and many other wild flowers can be found in bloom in the spring and purple rhododendron bloom in mid-June.

A 3.5 mile paved bikeway/walkway in Radford along the New River, includes fields and play areas. You can also rent canoes, kayaks and tubes from Radventures.

Great for biking, fishing, camping and more- New River Trail is a 57-mile linear park that follows an abandoned railroad right-of-way. The park parallels the scenic and historic New River for 39 miles and passes through four counties and the city of Galax. This area includes one of our favorite camping spots at Foster Falls. Also there is primitive camping on the nearby island area. Horseback riding is also available along with boat rentals. Shot-tower is nearby.

Wonder Universe: A Children's Museum

Fun bowling place (with bumper guards for the kids) with an arcade. Attached to theaters (where you can take food and adult beverages in to watch a movies). Great place to watch a sports game on the EXTRA LARGE screen.

Peaceful. An easy trail around a pond with wetlands on one end. Good fishing and watching wildlife here. There are many other trails that branch off from the main trail. There is also a nearby cluster of mountain bike trails in this area. Entrance is across SR 621 - Craig Creek Road.

Peaceful. An easy trail around a pond with wetlands on one end. Good fishing and watching wildlife here. There are many other trails that branch off from the main trail. There is also a nearby cluster of mountain bike trails in this area. Entrance is across SR 621 - Craig Creek Road.
A large open tract of land (former farm property) great for walking and exploring with the kids. Near Rising Silo Brewery which has a family-community focus and often has live music.

Nice place to explore. Includes Solitude, a historic home located on the Virginia Tech campus. The earliest section was built about 1802, and expanded first in circa 1834 and then in the 1850s by Col. Robert Preston, who received the land surrounding Solitude from his father, Virginia Governor James Patton Preston. Dating back over 200 years, Solitude is the oldest building on the Virginia Tech Blacksburg campus.

We love to support our local entrepreneurs and we enjoy the environment of a good craft brewery and adult beverage establishment. There are many locations that are more student focused. We will work to include some of those listings here (there are many) particularly in the Blacksburg area.
Craft brewery with excellent food and it is located across the street from the Virginia Tech Moss Arts Center (so you can grab dinner if you are in town for a show).
