Sightseeing

Past Arcadia, continuing the road up the hill, you will find a parking lot. from there there is a very nice hike up to "the Forts", which are the site of army barracks and shooting gun protecting the corral seas, during WW2. The hike is moderate, the views are beautiful and you will see Koalas for sure, specially if you ask visitors coming down to tell you where there are on that particular day

Balding bay can be accessed by hiking on well maintained trail accessible on the right side of horseshow bay. Past the last houses on the beach, make a sharp turn on the right, walk along the house lot (on your right) until you find the beginning of a trail. It will be very visible and paved with laid stones. From there it is a hike uphill on a moderate grade. At the top the trail will fork (indicated). Make a left for balding bay. the trail will descend to a little bay, with crystal clear water and usually no one. Warning: there is no shade, you must take water and sunscreen.

Horseshoe bay is the second beach with a safety net (along with Picnic bay). The bay is big and can be walked from one end to the other. There are restaurants, bars and a few convenient stores. There is a fun market on Sundays, with food, artisanal goods and the usual bric-a-brac. you can also rent paddle boards and jet-skis on the beach

Getting to Florence bay has become a real effort, since the road to radical bay came into disrepair and was finally closed to motor vehicles. It is really worth the hike, though and is probably one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. You need to leave your car at "the forts" parking lot (above Arcadia. From there it is a ~3 km hike down hill to Arthur bay and on beyond along the road (paved by very rutted) on moderate uphill and down hill grade until the Florence bay parking lot. The beach should be empty, the water is very blue and on the left side of the bay, there are massifs of live corrals, protected from motor boats by a cordon of buoys. So bring fins, masks and snorkels. There is a huge and friendly potato cod, which is easy to find. He knows people and is not too shy. There also a few large moon fishes and other corral fishes. If your bring frozen peas, you will have a whole menagerie around you.

Sunbus, which goes from Picnic bay to Horseshoe bay

The Picnic Bay bus stop is on the front of the R&R pub and goes to Horseshoe bay. It stops in Nelly bay, at the ferry and stops at Arcadia (Alma Bay) and the Forts, before arriving to Horseshoe. It is convenient to go around if you don't have a car. It goes every 45" to every hour, depending on the time of day. You will need to check the time table

Swimming more safely

For families with children, or for visitors concerned about Jelly fish (a real concern), there are two beaches with safety nets: one in Picnic bay, at the bottom of the headland, right below the house and one on Horseshoe bay
