Fort Gaines is a historic fort on Dauphin Island, Alabama, United States. Established in 1821, it is best known for its role in the Battle of Mobile Bay during the American Civil War.
The well-preserved ramparts of Fort Gaines have guarded the entrance to Mobile Bay for more than 150 years. Now a historic site, the Fort stands at the eastern tip of Dauphin Island where it commands panoramic views of the bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The fort has original cannons, a blacksmith shop, kitchens, a museum, gift shop, and tunnels.

Absolutely fabulous sunset cruise with Captain Steve! Go around the old lighthouse, see the natural gas rigs, then headed to west end to see the sunset. From start to finish, Captain Steve is accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable and all-around enjoyable. Every need was anticipated, from bottled water to beanbag chairs on the beach to making sure we were ok with rougher waters (and having a plan if we weren’t) to finding shells in the water when he noticed we were hunting for them on the sand. An incredible experience we will be sure to enjoy again.
He also offers off shore snapper fishing charters for a full or half day.
