Jump in the car and 45 minutes away from Sunriver (or 30 minutes from Bend), you can visit the town of Sisters and spend the day exploring the local shops, art galleries, restaurants and wait in line at the iconic Sno Cap Drive In. They host a huge outdoor quilt show every summer sponsored by one of my favorites, The Stitchin’ Post, and a RODEO that is quite the event! Grab coffee at Fika Sisters then drive the McKenzie Pass - Santiam Pass Scenic Byway.

Sightseeing

Open year round, if you enjoy scenic views of deep river canyons or rock climbing, Smith Rock is the place for you. Along you trip through the canyon you might see golden eagles, prairie falcons, mule deer, river otter and beaver. Smith Rock is so beautiful but be careful, we have tourists fall and get hurt every year doing dumb things. Keep an eye out for Rattlesnakes in the warmer months. In the fall they have an awesome pumpkin patch that is super cute for photos! 47 minute drive from Sunriver.

1.5 hour drive. The lake (1,943 feet deep) lies inside a caldera, or volcanic basin, and was created when 12,000 foot high Mount Mazama collapsed 7,700 years ago following a large eruption. Because the lake is filled almost entirely by snowfall, it is one of the clearest lakes in the world. It is the most beautiful shade of blue, and one of our family's favorite places to visit locally.
