Food scene
If you’re after a nice local breakfast, lunch or coffee a good place in ‘town’ is The General Store It’s a short walk from the flat. The bonus of going to The General Store is that it’s very near the beach. There are a set of steps near The General Store that go down to Cabbage Tree Bay. That’s a nice place to just sit and while away time, read etc.
OR you can walk around to the lighthouse and up the stairs then back to the car park at The General Store
OR you can continue walking around past the lighthouse to Soldiers Beach and then walk home (that’s our fave walk).
OR you can just walk up the road to the light house and then around to Soldiers Beach

The Canton Beach Sports Club has a really good (and not expensive) Malaysian restaurant in it. We often eat here or get take-away.

Catherine Hill Bay pub is a good one to go to. It’s a bit of a drive but the atmosphere is great – we love it there but you can’t drink and drive from there – it’s too far!

The Doylo is a bit further away than some of the more local clubs/pubs, but its worth a visit. Has a smokehouse serving lots of US style BBQ as well as a nice Bistro.

A short walk, Shorethyme is more upmarket than most of the local restaurants/eateries. We save this one for special occasions. They do an excellent breakfast on weekends as well as great evening meals. Ring and book to make sure you can get in.

Local Beaches
If you want to go for a really looong beach walk, go to Lakes Beach. It’s a drive, but only 3.1 km. That beach goes for a really long distance and is a good surf beach.

A nice place to go for a picnic (you can either walk or drive) is over to Canton Beach. That beach is a lake beach, not a sea beach. If you’re interested you can hire paddle boards there, or watch the other people paddle boarding or sailing.

Soldiers Beach is the nearest surf beach to the flat. You can drive or walk there. It is popular with the younger crowd and is patrolled by surf life savers during the peak summer months.

Cabbage Tree Bay beach is a short walk or drive from the flat. It has a rock pool for the toddlers and a boat ramp for the boaties. A nice sheltered beach for the kids.

Closest beach to the flat, but not for the faint-hearted. There are 110 steps to negotiate down to the beach from the carpark. And then, of course, another 110 steps to come back up. Nice quiet beach, but it is not patrolled so be careful in rough seas.
