Pambula is a coastal village big in history, its peaceful lakes and idyllic river mouth a far cry from the hustle and bustle that followed the discovery of gold near the township in the 1880s. Shopfronts give a nod to that era, with bull-nose verandas, a town clock and a general lack of tall neon signs. Browsing the main street, you’ll discover specialty shops, such as an artisan bakery and coffee roasters, whole foods, local art and picture framing, vintage collectables, boutiques and eco-focused retail with a flair for the local. You will also find the usual necessary shops such as supermarket, post office, newsagent, bank and real estate. On the fringe discover Longstocking Brewery and Oaklands Barn, where tasty local produce and craft beers are the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Or take a tour of Pambula Lake and explore where the oysters are grown, meet the farmers and enjoy freshly shucked oysters just metres from the water. At the southern end of the main street, Panboola Wetlands offers a tranquil nature experience that is popular for birdwatching and photography. One of Pambula’s charms is its proximity to beaches, particularly Pambula Beach, which is patrolled and has an active and inclusive surf life-saving club just behind the dunes. There is assisted access to the high tide line in the form of a permanent ramp across the soft sand. Pambula is an ideal spot for family holidays - beach comb the sweeping sands, collect shells washed up with the tide, explore life in fascinating rock pools, lunch with the kangaroos or take a horse ride through the wetlands and river flats.

Eden is bounded to the north and south by a national park and set in magnificent Twofold Bay – the third deepest natural harbour in the Southern Hemisphere. This historic town is famous for its intriguing whale history and the tale of the wild killer whales who hunted with the Yuin people, and later with European settlers. Eden is known as one of the most premier whale watching locations in Australia, and each spring, thousands of humpbacks visit Eden on their way home to Antarctica. Eden didn't get its heavenly name by mistake - take time to explore Eden's stunning beaches, secluded coves and rock pools and take a drive north or south to discover the incredible Ben Boyd National Park. For splashing about, choose between several beaches right in Eden – Aslings for surfing and rock pools, Cocora for family fun with facilities or Snug Cove with its caves. Then, for some more natural solitude, discover Wonboyn further south, tucked between Ben Boyd National Park and Nadgee Nature Reserve, where the lake empties into the stunning Disaster Bay.
