You might walk right past this place, thinking it was just your standard greasy fast food takeaway but do not be fooled. Genuinely Italian owned, this is the real deal. They make fresh porchetta every day and it's to die for. We recommend the Porchetta and Friarelli Panini and one of their homemade cannoli's. Molto bene!

This place is outrageously good. Some of the most delicious and authentic Turkish and Lebanese food in the city. We eat here far too regularly. The chicken and lamb shawarmas are both must haves, and definitely get an order of the hummus as well. So good!

Cute and delicious little brunch spot serving up great coffee, mouthwatering homebaking and some great brunch offers. We insist you try their chipotle poached eggs - toasted sourdough bread, fresh rocket, black pudding, and 2 runny poached eggs topped with spring onions and their very own chipotle dressing. I mean, come on?

Neighbourhoods

Kinning Park is a unique and historic Glasgow neighbourhood that enjoys close proximity to the City Centre and the buzz of the famous West End whilst retaining a bit of its own independence and character. It hasn't been gripped by overwhelming gentrification like the other more mainstream areas of Glasgow have, which allows it to feel very local and full of genuine Glasgow eccentricity. It embodies all of what makes up the soul of Glasgow; authenticity, multiculturalism and history. One of the best things about Kinning Park is the amenities. It benefits from having its own stop on the iconic Glasgow Subway route, as well as being walking distance to two more; both the Cessnock and Ibrox stops. If you feel like getting your steps in, a scenic walk along the River Clyde will have you right in the city centre or in the middle of the West End's Kelvingrove Park in 30 minutes (although we can do it 20). The Science Centre, the BBC Scotland building, SEC, Hydro, Village Gym and Hotel, Pacific Quay Complex (which features restaurants, an multi-screen Odeon Cinema, a Pure Gym and a Bowling Alley) and the IMAX Cinema are all a 10 minute walk from our front door. Paisley Road West itself features a number of classic (and some infamous!) Glasgow boozers. The neighbourhood ones we recommend are listed here in our guide. If it doesn't appear there, you won't be missing anything by not going in. There is one cultural idiosyncracy you should be aware of when traversing Kinning Park, which is that it is adjacent to the seat of one of Glasgow's Old Firm Football Clubs - Rangers FC. Therefore some of the pubs have a particular dedication to the sport and team. If you aren't familiar with Glasgows Old Firm rivalry between the Celtic and Rangers football teams, it's worth a Google search before coming to Glasgow for the first time (regardless of where you are staying). Generally we would say avoid booking your trip if it falls on a game day, but if you're a more adventurous sort and fancy taking in a bit of classic Glasgow mayhem, then go for it.

The Village Hotel and Gym is just on the edge of Kinning Park before you cross the road over to the Clydeside. It has a really nice bar and restaurant (we particularly recommend their Sunday Roast), Starbucks and also offers day passes and short term membership to their brilliant leisure centre. The leisure centre includes a high-quality gym, swimming pool, sauna and spa. It's ideal for a bit of R&R if your in town for a longer visit.
