Food scene

This quaint neighborhood grocery and eatery is a locals favorite. The deli makes fantastic sandwiches, hot dogs, and on a cold evening you'll want to grab one of the handmade chicken pot pies from the refrigerated section before they're all snatched up. Their wine buyer has a superb palette, and just for fun, check out the kicking collection of spicy sauces!

This colorful Mexican fare restaurant has just about everything you need for the full experience. The locals favorite is "El Ranchero Special Cheese Crisp" and I highly recommend adding carnitas on top. There's also a secret extra hot salsa that isn't on the menu. It's habanero based--order it... if you dare!

The La Valencia is perfect for two things: 1) An afternoon cocktail at the picture-window bar 2) Sunday brunch! This historic and exceptionally well maintained Southern-California-Spanish style location is a must-visit.

This cheese shop is the perfect addition to your trip. Whether it's a perfectly made sandwich, a personal sized-fruit and cheese plate to take to the beach, or a large charcuterie board to share, this local gem is one of my all-time favorites. All of the food is locally sourced, the owners a kind husband/wife team, and the prices are completely reasonable. I highly recommend enjoying this neighborhood treasure while you're in town. (For bigger boards, be sure to call ahead at least an hour or two as each board is made individually by hand.)

Neighborhoods

La Jolla beaches are the most beautiful in all of San Diego with rocky dramatic cliff lines and soft sandy beaches below. Each cove has it's own unique personality and each is worthy of exploring. My favorite beach in this neighborhood is Windansea Beach. Dramatic rocky shorelines mix together with epic waves for surfing creating an undeniably alluring beach experience.

Consejos para la ciudad

Qué debes empacar

Always bring a sweater or jacket for the evenings.

Most people think of Southern California as a dreamy, sun-drenched destination. It is! But, what most people don't know is that for most of the year once the sun sets, the temperature drops any where from 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Be sure to pack something warmer for the evenings.
