Braeside Walk This is quite easy, and takes about 1.5 hours if you drive to the carpark and then drive back. You can walk the whole way from the house and back if you with, it then takes about 2 hours. It’s basically a very easy, fairly level walk following a water course to the top of the cliffs overlooking the Grose Valley. When you get there the path meets another cliff top path, turn left and it takes you to Govett’s Leap lookout, turn right and it goes first to a lookout overlooking the waterfall and then goes on to Evans Lookout. Both of these tracks are well worth doing, they’re not so steep and the views are spectacular. But if your time, or energy, is limited, you can just walk back the way you came and end up back at the car park. A good introductory walk with some amazing views..

Grand Canyon This is a little harder as it involves a walk down into a steep gully and then a walk back up. It takes between 2.5 and 3 hours usually, but it’s one of the best hikes in the Blue Mountains. You need to drive from the house to the Grand Canyon Car Park, which is along Evans Lookout Road. The car park is not far from Evans Lookout itself, and is located so that you can walk in either direction to the track and still end up back where you parked. This is a loop walk, so from the car park you just follow the signs. It gets quite steep gong down, and coming up, so it’s not really feasible for anyone with limited mobility. It is beautiful however, a true rainforest and waterfall experience, plus the track is very well maintained.

Valley of the Waters and Wentworth Falls This needs half a day and a camera! You will need to drive from Blackheath to the village of Wentworth Falls, about 15-20 minutes towards Sydney. Then follow Google Maps to the parking area near the Conservation Hut, which is a coffee shop cafe right at the beginning of the Valley of the Waters track. One option is to walk down to the Valley of the Waters (lots of beautiful waterfalls, grottoes and caves) and then come back up to the Conservation Hut for coffee or lunch. The longer option is to keep going along the track following the signs to Wentworth Falls and Slack’s stairs. It’s easy walking until you get the bottom of the falls, but then it’s a steep walk up lots of stairs to the top; but it’s literally an experience of a lifetime! You’ll need to take plenty of rests on the way up, but the photos you can get are unbelievable. Once you get back to the top it’s a 20 minute flat walk back to the car park. By the time you get home you’ll be tired and hungry, and ready for a hot bath.
