Beaches

There are so many fantastic beaches to visit in Cornwall and our cottage is perfectly situated to visit some of the best award-winning beaches in the country. If you like surfing and golden, sandy beaches you are in the perfect spot. Here are some of the closest and the best.
Trevaunance Cove is our nearest beach which is a 5 minute drive or a 2 kilometre walk from the cottage. It is popular with surfers (I’m learning!) and there is a Surf Life Saving Club here. Check the tide times as the beach vanishes at high tide. There are a number of places to eat. We love to walk here for a swim at sunset followed by a cocktail or two watching the sun go down at the fantastic Schooners Bistro which sits on the waterfront. It makes the walk back uphill much easier:)) The beach is DOG FRIENDLY all year round but dogs should be kept on a short lead during July and August.

Trevellas Cove is next door to Trevaunance Cove in St Agnes. It’s perfect for rock pooling and you can walk from one cove to the other at low tide. Its dog friendly all year round. From here you can either take a stroll to the Blue Hills Tin Mine along the river or up over the cliff to Wheal Kitty. Very Insta worthy!!

One of our most favourite things to do is take a walk from the cottage, along the coastal path, around St Agnes head to the bay at Chapel Porth with stunning views of the sea and several old mine workings including the famous Wheal Coates. This beach was voted one of the top 5 Beaches in the Sunday Times 2020. Here you can enjoy a famous Hedgehog ice-cream from the cafe. If the tide is low, you can walk on to Porthtowan along the beach. Check the tide times as this is only accessible for a few hours each day!! Dog Friendly from 1st October to Easter and before 8am and after 7pm between Easter and 30th September.

One of our favourite beaches. Stunning!!! This smaller beach is tucked away between Holywell Bay to the south and Crantock Beach to the north. It is a 10 minute trek to get to but WORTH IT and consequently remains undisturbed. Park in the National Trust car park in the village. Try and arrive at low tide to explore the little caves.

This blue flag, award-winning beach is just a 10 minute drive from our cottage. It can also be reached along the coastal path if you feel up for a strenuous walk. The Unicorn on the Beach is a great pub selling amazing, local lobster or you can buy fish and chips from the cool Seasmiths and eat them on the cliff top. Dog Friendly from 1st October to Easter and before 8am and after 7pm between Easter and 30th September.

Food scene

We cannot come to St Agnes without eating here!!! Canteen was founded in 2017 by Ben Quinn with an aim to cook affordable food for the year-round community in Cornwall. Located in the historic Wheal Kitty Workshops, just a 20 minute stroll from our cottage, they serve food Wednesday to Saturday, 12 till it’s gone. There a meat and a veggie option, both always £5. The food is always AMAZING. Get there early to avoid disappointment.

A fishy bistro based in Churchtown, a 10 minute walk from the cottage. One of our favourites. The atmosphere is super relaxed and the food and wine are delicious. You’ll need to book.

I know I’m biased when it comes to St Agnes but this is genuinely the best fish and chip shop ever!!! We like to eat ours straight out of the box on the walk back to the cottage after a swim in Travaunance Cove. Soooooo good:)

Schooners Bistro is situated right on the beach at Trevaunance Cove. The amazing food here is locally sourced and with regular live music and DJ sessions it’s the ‘hottest’ place to hang out. We like to get here just before sunset and enjoy a cocktail whilst watching the sun go down. This makes the walk back uphill to the cottage seem easier.

A five minute walk from the cottage is the Cornish Pizza Co. Perfect when David can’t be bothered to cook for me:)). As well as fantastic pizza, they also sell local beer, cider, ice-cream and home-made chocolate brownies. Never fails to disappoint.
