The Jerónimos Monastery 1502-1572 is the crown of the Manueline Style, and an impressive memorial to the Portuguese naval feats. Chosen as the royal pantheon and financed by the fabulous wealth from India, this monumental construction is a brilliant synthesis of European late-Gothic and early renaissance trends. This is also of unquestionable technical mastery, especially the elegant and bold ribbed dome that covers the entire church. UNESCO classified in 1983 it as a ‘World Heritage Site’. It is approximately 2,6 km from Casa do Alto.

It was from here that many of the great Portuguese explorers embarked on their voyages of discovery. Designed by Francisco de Arruda and buildt between 1514 and 1520, the tower known as Torre de São Vicente de Belém was a key element of the defensive complex at the mouth of the Tagus. Its shape still recalls the traditional keeps of medieval castles. This singular Manueline building also represents the new developments that were called for by advances made in artillery, some of its structural aspects being similar to the modern Italian-style fortress. The monument is classified by UNESCO as part of World's Heritage site. It's located 4,5 km from Casa do Alto.

The 25 de Abril Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril), is a suspension bridge connecting the city of Lisbon, capital of Portugal, to the municipality of Almada on the left (south) bank of the Tejo river. It was inaugurated on August 6, 1966, and a train platform was added in 1999. Because it is a suspension bridge and has similar coloring, it is often compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, US. It was built by the American Bridge Company which constructed the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, but not the Golden Gate. With a total length of 2,277 m, it is the 27th largest suspension bridge in the world. The upper deck carries six car lanes, while the lower deck carries two train tracks electrified at 25 kV AC. Until 1974, the bridge was named Salazar Bridge. The name "25 de Abril" commemorates the Carnation Revolution.

The Gloria funicular opened to the public on October 24, 1885, connecting the Restauradores Square to Bairro Alto (São Pedro de Alcântara Belvedere), through Calçada da Glória. Originally, its traction system consisted of a rack rail and cable, powered by a water counterweight system. Later it evolved to steam power and, in 1915, the second funicular to be installed in the city of the seven hills, was electrified. Initially, the funicular cars were divided into two floors with longitudinal benches. Today, they only have one floor, but the longitudinal benches were kept. In 2002, the Gloria funicular was declared a National Monument.

Visiting Lisbon gives you the opportunity to get acquainted with the Fado music. Classified as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 2011, Fado is the purest expression of Lisboa's 'soul'. Much more than just a song, Fado is a musical manifestation of feeling Portuguese and a city's way of life, always accompanied by the solemn and melancholy chords of the Portuguese guitar. The internationalization of Fado nowadays, is greatly due to the charisma and the voice of Amália Rodrigues, the most renowned fado singer of all time, who from 1950's took Lisboa's song to the most prestigious venues, from Russia to Japan. More recently, a new generation of singers of his genre has given the song a new vitality, placing it in circuits of World Music. Scattered in and around the center of Lisbon, particularly in the Bairro Alto, you can find various Fado houses, restaurants or bars where you can experience live performance of Fado while enjoying your meal or drink. These restaurants are more expensive than the regularly ones, but most of them are worth visiting them. Choose one that has a good value for money. In the direct surroundings you’ll find restaurant ‘Timpanas’, only 1,3 km from Casa No Alto, and 'Taberna da Saudade' (at 69 Rua Presidente Arriaga) at 2 km from the apartment. Some other well known Fado houses in Lisbon, among many others, are: 'Maria da Mouraria', 'Tasca da Bela', and 'A Tasca do Chico'.
