Food scene

Adolfo’s is a small, intimate, local spot overlooking Frenchmen’s nightlife. It’s perfect for a couple or just a single person looking to have a nice quiet dinner. It’s located in the Marigny triangle where the most happening scene of Frenchmen is, but it gives you a break from the party. Enjoy this authentic, Creole Italian taste of New Orleans. Two things to note: it is cash only, and there are quite a few stairs that lead up to the restaurant.

Morrow’s is a hip restaurant that has most traditional New Orleans seafood dishes, but also dishes with some Korean influence. The food is great, and the atmosphere is lively. This is a good place for larger or smaller parties to have a nice lunch or dinner before a night on the town.

Bennachin is a restaurant in the French Quarter with traditional African dishes from The Gambia and Cameroon. New Orleans is a beautifully diverse city with authentic flavors from all over the world. This restaurant has a deliciously refreshing drink made with Ginger that you shouldn’t pass up! There are also many vegan options on the menu. One of my favorites is the black eyed pea fritter po’ boy, it’s called mburu akara. Delicious!

Two words: Taco Tuesday! The place is on Magazine street; I would say about a 15 minute drive from the “Bywater Beauty”. The tacos are discounted on most Tuesdays (excluding cinco de Mayo and Mardi Gras) and so are the margaritas. The tacos are delicious and there are a few tasty vegan options. The margaritas are pretty delicious as well. This is another place where you should definitely expect a wait, but its oh so worth it. There’s outside dining too!

Very reasonable prices! Local favorite! Boiled seafood done the New Orleans way. In addition to the boiled seafood, gumbo, fried catfish, shrimp fried rice, wings and the kitchen sink are served at this former hole in the wall New Orleans Classic. This is a cafeteria style eatery. Patrons wait in line, place there order and pick it up from the counter when ready. There are tables so you can sit and eat, but most people take their food to go. This is where the locals go. If you go on Sunday, you will definitely run into the “Super Sunday” party on Claiborne Ave. This place is located in the historic Treme neighborhood of New Orleans.

More great seafood! The drinks here are pretty good as well. There is a great happy hour that includes discounts on oysters. By the way, Gulf Coast oysters are the absolute best, in my humble opinion lol.

I normally order from this restaurant through ASAP or Uber Eats. PeeWee’s is comfort food New Orleans style! The food is flavorful and creatively executed. I haven’t tried everything on the menu yet, but so far, I really enjoyed the seafood baked potato and the fried seafood platter which comes complete with their iconic mini crab cakes. They are located on Old Gentilly Road (a 10 minute drive). This is one of the local favorites like Cajuns.

This is a health food store. There are smoothies, salads, sandwiches, ginger shots and sea moss. This is a great place to energize in the morning after a night of bon vivant. The “ya heard me” is their green smoothie which is my favorite.

This place is open to the public on weekdays. On weekends they host private events. The food is great. They have a few vegan options and of course, there is neat cocktail bar. The location is a wide open warehouse space so it’s great for large groups and there is usually live music.

Robért’s is a grocery store that also serves hot food. It’s very close to the property.

Cocktail Bar

This is a beer garden style bar. It is a very large place with tables and a beautiful garden. This place is perfect for large groups. There is normally one or two food trucks. If you’re not in the mood for beer, there are also cocktail options. If the weather is nice, you would want to be here for sure! You may see a pup or two because furry friends are allowed. The Wrong Iron is located in Bayou St. John which is about a 12 minute drive from the home. If you visit in the day time grab a beer and explore the Bayou a bit it’s quite beautiful and relaxing, but be sure to watch out for gators!

Things to do

Clue Carre is great for large groups and people of all ages. It’s an interactive game. Players have to put together clues in order to solve a mystery that ultimately allows them to escape a room. It is a lot of fun, and a lot of the rooms have a New Orleans theme. This is a great team builder and ice breaker for groups.

This is a nice, relaxing activity that will allow you to walk away with a handmade, one of a kind souvenir that was made by you! You can bring your own snacks and drinks. I would recommend wine, cheese, crackers, fruit or things of that nature.

The New Orleans Steamboat Company is no newcomer to the Mississippi River or American's steamboat heritage. Our parent company has been operating steamboats longer than any company in the world. In fact, we've been part of the history of steam transport since 1817, just five years after the first steamboat docked in New Orleans. We're now in our fourth decade of life on the Mississippi. We've given literally millions of people the experience of one of our country's oldest and richest traditions. -steamboatnatchez . com

Catch a breath of fresh air along the banks of the Mississippi, just steps from the French Quarter. The path along Woldenberg Park and the Moonwalk provides a place to bike, walk or jog with wide, open views of the river - arguably the best in the city. Sit and watch freighters float upriver, listen to local musicians and street performers, or wander down brick walkways through the park's lush landscape. You might even happen upon a festival taking place in the park's outdoor amphitheatre. Great scenery, plus plenty of grass and benches, make it easy to recharge after a day exploring the city. -New Orleans . com

Consejos para la ciudad

Getting around the city

Lyft, Uber, the streetcar, walking, biking and driving are the most popular ways of getting around the city.
Costumbres y cultura

Greetings

Our custom is to answer the question of “how ya doin’?” with “how ya doin.” with less inflection. This is appropriate when on the streets walking past people who make eye contact and speak. If your intention is to engage in conversation with a person, then answering the question literally would be more appropriate.

Accessories

Bring a hat! Rain hat, straw hat or baseball cap. Bring all three if you’re fancy. A hat will protect you from the rain and sun! Bring a light jacket for the rain is unpredictable. Bring layers because we experience all four seasons in one day. Bring comfortable, CLOSED TOE walking shoes. Bring rain boots! The city does not shut down if there is torrential rain and neither should you (just try not to drive in it). I would advise against any opened toe footwear while strolling the French Quarter. You will regret it!!!

You’re joking!

If someone says, “ I know you lying!” They are not accusing you of lying, they are basically saying “you got to be kidding me!”
