The Quiet Center is really one of those spaces in Riga that allows you to experience just how glorious the city was back in the 1900’s. You are surrounded by amazing buildings with stunning facades full of detail. The most famous streets here for Art Nouveau would be Albert Street and Elizabeth Street. You will find many gems of Art Nouveau architecture off the more famous streets as well; Vilandes, Rupniecibas and Ausekla ielas all have great examples of Rigas Art Nouveau.

Jūrmala is often called the “Northern Riviera”. Similarly to the Vidzeme coastal resort area northeast of Riga, Jūrmala was formed by uniting several older fishing villages and swimming settlements. Similarly to the French Riviera, the opening of a railway line in the second half of the 19th century – which today runs the whole length of Jūrmala and right through its heart – promoted greater numbers of visitors to the area and helped the spa culture to flourish. Over the years, the “Northern Riviera” feeling in Jūrmala has only grown stronger. Today Jūrmala is one of the few oases from the stress and chaos of our age, where one can still find that rare luxury of harmony between nature and the urban environment. The sea, the wind and stands of majestic pines calmly coexist alongside a vibrant cultural scene, a combination that inspires, refreshes and enriches all who spend time here.

Architecturally-imposing food pavilions, built in the 1920s, are Riga Central Market’s calling card. Originally used as military airship hangars, they were later transformed into market venues. Riga Central Market is unique not only with its pavilions but also with its old warehouses or the so-called spikeri (from German Spéicher), which have now been turned into a hip arts & entertainment quarter. It is not only one of the largest marketplaces in Eastern Europe in area, but also one of the most visited. At Riga Central Market, you can buy Latvian-grown and homemade products, exotic fruit and spices, as well as manufactured merchandise. The market includes 5 pavilions each with its own category - vegetables, dairy, meat, fish and gastronomy products, as well as an outdoor area with stalls and stands, the Night Market and ‘Round the Clock Farmers’ Market. The new section of the market "Gastro market" covers half of one of its Zeppelin style hangars and features over 20 different caterers and 2 bars. It is possible to find Prosecco, oysters, pizza, craft beer, gastro hot dogs, ramen, thai soup, raw food, falafel and pretty much most food types on offer.

In the course of a season that runs from September to June the LNOB performs more than 200 performances, staging on average six new productions every season of both opera and ballet. The LNOB today is a repertoire theatre. While paying tribute to the traditional values of the classical and Romantic operas and ballets that are the cornerstones of its repertoire, the LNOB continually strives to seek contemporary forms of expression. The LNO stage regularly resounds with successful productions of modern operatic and ballet masterpieces, children's performances, and original Latvian works. The LNOB is open to the world: the company has an active touring schedule with many superb guest singers, conductors, choreographers and directors frequently gracing the LNO stage. In recent seasons, the LNOB has been touring to the Hong Kong Festival, the Bordeaux Opera, the Catania Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Luxembourg Opera, the Dalhalla Festival in Sweden, to Mexico. The LNO is a place where talent is born – popular soloists like Elīna Garanča, Kristine Opolais, Marina Rebeka, Maija Kovaļevska, Inese Galante, Aleksandrs Antoņenko and Egils Silins started their careers at the LNO. The LNO Company was founded soon after independence was declared on the 18th of November, 1918, and in the 1920s the opera company was joined by the first professional Latvian ballet ensemble. The LNOB occupies a stately neo-classical style building in Riga, originally constructed as the Riga German Theatre in 1863.
