Get all the essentials right down the block. It's convenient, but pricey. If you want cheaper and are willing to walk/bus/drive a couple miles, Safeway is not too far.

If you want to get away from the waikiki crowd, head to Kaimanas (Sans Souci). Located at the very far end of Waikiki Beach towards Diamond Head. Just follow Kalakaua all the way down.

Rain is pretty constant in the Manoa Valley, so there is usually a good fall. Very beautiful surroundings. Don't forget the bug spray!
