Altamaha State Waterfowl Area on the Colonial Coast Birding Trail.

In nearby Darien nine miles away are three restaurants I highly recommend. Skipper's Fish Camp and Oyster Bar has excellent seafood and many other favorite dishes with a great view of the setting sun across the marsh over the Darien River and interesting wildlife and fish decor that outdoorsmen will love. B&J's Seafood and Steaks on U.S. 17 in the middle of Darien also has great seafood in large portions, buffet, and reasonable prices. Blue Bay Mexican Restaurant on the way to Skippers offers very good Tex-Mex dishes. Closer to home to the north is Fish Dock at Pelican Point on the Sapelo River with seafood including freshly harvested clams and a wide menu.
The visitor's center at the mainland ferry dock has an excellent small museum on the Island's interesting history, including the R.J. Reynolds Wildlife Management Area, the R.J. Reynolds Mansion, the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Area, and the Island's beautiful beaches. I conduct private tours of the Island seven days a week on airbnb experiences, Darien, GA, USA.

Fort King George State Historic Site contains an excellent museum and an authentic replica of the 1721 blockhouse, barracks, officer's quarters, doctor's office, and moat, the first English settlement in Georgia and the southern most English outpost in North America at the time. I give tours of it and the nearby Darien Historic District.

The Altamaha State Waterfowl Management Area is one of the top listing sites on the Colonial Coast Birding Trail. It contains restored dikes from the pre-Civil War rice plantations including a still standing brick rice drying mill chimney, nature trails, kayak and boat launching, and duck hunting, plus the new England style raised cottage home visited by Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig during the off season for hunting and fishing.
