Since Korčula has long been under the Italian influence, the Korčula town is also known as “Curzola”. It is a fortified city, and is surrounded by stone walls in order to protect the city of Korčula from strong wind. In the 18th century wandering outside the city walls was strictly forbidden, but now, many tourists and locals enjoy exploring Korčula passing through its narrow streets, aslo known as the “Street of Thoughts”.
