This is the original hidden gem of Edinburgh. It seems to be closed in the evenings and is literally hidden away down a lane, but it's the best food around thanks to the top chefs working there.

Trendy place for breakfast. Canonmills is definitely cooler than Stockbridge now!

Spectacular building. It's actually better for coffee/ early lunch. The bar is ok if you order a gin and tonic but the beers are limited. Basically it's not as posh as it looks, but looks amazing!

They do an all you can eat buffet at the start of each month, must phone to book table. I'm sure I'll soon get banned for eating too much. Awesome

I love this bar, it has no commercial booze on sale but it's not trying to be too hipster. Just tasteful and trendy, confident in the quality of the range of beers on offer. Good breakfasts too.

I often go for the lunch time board deals, 3 courses for around £10 it's a bargain and great quality. Staff are lovely too

The main reason this place is good is because you have to go downstairs and through a secret door! Once inside it's trendy, good cocktails.

If you go early morning there is a breakfast bar and at lunch time a take away canteen. Honestly the best wholesome food in the town centre, and cheap. The butchers itself is upmarket and posh.

There's no city centre late night takeaways apart from one hellish chip shop on Rose Street. I like Pizza Paradise if I'm on a night out!
