Great crisp-shell tacos on the go. Local favorite. Order at the window and bite into the wonderful greasy-ness on the picnic tables. Also breakfast burritos.

The pricier, sit-down brother of El Parasol. Try the Carne Adovada (or convince Dan to make some at home), the Enchilada Suprema/Green, or Trout Amandine. And...margaritas!!! Just remember, you have to drive home and it's nicer to sleep here than at the Motel 6. The dining room is great, but we also like grabbing a table in the bar and just going for it.

The closest place to have somebody else cook breakfast, lunch or dinner. Serve wine and beer, but not on Sunday. Wide-ranging menu will get everyone fed. Sometimes a bit too quiet (not uncrowded, just people being quiet) so make your own noise. A combination of people staying at the Inn, locals and on Sunday mornings, the after-Church crowd.

If you want fancier, and pricier. Great menu. Beautiful surroundings. We prefer the Wine Bar which is open later (10pm on weekends, mostly), more casual and walk in, though the dining room is superb if you're feeling that way.

Yes, the Papa Joes special, double green chile cheeseburger might kill you but you'll die very happy. Or share it and die more slowly. Or just get the single. Or get ice cream with the local kids out of the old-fashioned cooler. Husband and wife run, a classic. Rumor has it they give free meals to honor roll students in the local school. A beautiful drive to get here too.

Lauri's favorite tacos. "Clean" she says, soft-corn tortilla classics, more Mexican in style than Northern New Mexican. Cuban Tortas too. Try these with a friend. Then try El Parasol. Then argue the merits and go back to both places for more. Closed Wednesdays.

Arts & Culture

Where Georgia O'Keeffe lived and worked for many years, just a few miles down the road. We're not usually one's for "tours," but this is not to be missed. Get the inside glimpse of the artist's life, and if you're lucky, our friend Frank will be leading the tour.

Cliff dwellings. Nature. A walk. A hike. History. Need anything else? Well, you can climb ladders into the dwellings. But don't have to.

Essentials

Nearest for supplies. Basic foodstuffs, beer, wine, fishing and camping gear, some assorted hardware, also a little cafe with good sandwiches and a great green chile cheeseburger. A true general store, now showing the influence of newcomers with almond milk, kombucha and such in addition to the usual.

If Bode's doesn't have it and you don't want to do WalMart, this is it without going into Santa Fe. Pretty good selection, with traditional foods, plus items influenced by the local Sikh population.
