This restaurant has been a fairly recent discovery for us and we love it - great food, spacious restaurant, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. It's on the canal bank at Scarva so you can combine lunch or dinner with an easy walk

20 minute drive from Lagan Bank Lodge - Beautiful woodland river walk through narrow glen, good for a rainy day as you're under cover of trees for most of the walk. Very peaceful and out-of-the-way location (3-4 km walk).

45 minute drive from Lagan Bank Lodge - Tollymore is a beautiful forest park at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, great place for a picnic or long walks along the river bank or up the side of the mountain for the more adventurous. The old hermitage on the lower river trail is worth a visit. Then you can finish your day off at the seaside in Newcastle only two miles away. My wife was born & raised in Tollymore and says it's the most perfect spot in the world!
Point of interest - Many of the older bridges and towers as well as the forest itself are used as locations in the Game of Thrones TV series

45-55 minute drive from Lagan Bank Lodge - miles of sandy beach halfway between Newcastle & Dundrum - the beach at Murlough is a 10/15 minute walk from the car park (along surfaced paths which are suitable for pushchairs) but when you get there, the beach is much quieter than Newcastle's and the birdlife on the Nature reserve is amazing. Stunning views with the Mourne Mountains in the background.
