Nanteuil en Vallee is one of France's ‘petite cité de caractère'. With its attractive mix of stone and half-timbered houses, Nanteuil is on the chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostelle pilgrims walk, and contains the remains of a 12th century Benedictine Abbey. The village has two restaurants, both include a bar, there is a village shop selling local produce and a weekly market on Wednesdays.

Today, tourists can visit the old town of Oradour where crumbling walls, cars, and other household items have been left untouched for the last 74 years.
