"The Shoemaker's Crag" is a distinctive mountain 700 m above Jøsenfjorden.
It is very dramatic and powerful, with fantastic views of the mountains, fjord and islands from the viewpoint.
A much more peaceful experience than walking to Preikestolen. You might not meet anyone else on the hike. The landscape is wild and powerful, it feels like you are on top of the world.

Viga is a farm situated by a bay. Vigatunet at Hjelmeland is part of the Ryfylke museum, According to written sources, the farm can be traced back to the 14th century. There are several burial mounds on the farm as well as other finds from the early Stone Age and later.
The oldest building is the smokehouse in the main building complex, which was added on later and probably dates from the 17th century. You will also find outhouses, a byre, a barn, a corn mill and a traditional boathouse. In 1990 a historical orchard was opened, where old varieties of fruit and fruit traditions. About 500 million years ago, a meteorite hit the earth and created a 2.7 km wide and 400 m deep impact crater in a shallow sea. The crater was filled with marine sediments and later geological processes buried it deeply under the ground. But erosion and the relentless action of water and ice brought this geological treasure back to the surface close to the Ritland farm in Hjelmeland, Ryfylke, on the border of the Vormedalsheia protected landscape area. The crater is easily accessible and essentially untouched, and the area shows, with a bit of help, the history of this violent event.
