Amish Country

Please note that the entire Shipshewana is closed on Sundays due to religious observance. Really...it's a ghost town!

In these neck of the woods it is extremely important to be mindful of Amish riding their buggy or bike. Here are some things to be keep in mind: - When passing a buggy, remember to slow down & pass wide - Do not pass a buggy on the incline of a hill - Do not pass a buggy that is close to coming up on an intersection - If a horse is steering toward you or 'swerving,' slow down & proceed cautiously - When you are behind a buggy and it slows down, chances are they are turning (even Amish forget indicators) - High beams affect the driver and horses at night just like everyone else

Please be mindful when taking pictures as you are sightseeing. The Amish do not want their picture taken, especially of their children. If someone is in your frame's way, just politely ask them if you could take a picture. They will gladly move.

The Amish care about their community and those that roam around in it. If you drive by a person, buggy, or bike, give them a wave. These kinds of small interactions is what makes our community so great!
