Another medieval shopping street in Frome, full of shops and cafes and with lots of atmosphere. The narrow pedestrian street has an interesting 'leat' (medieval drain) running down its centre!

Food scene

There are so many good places to eat in and around Frome that we keep on discovering new ones!
This is our favourite place to eat in the whole of Frome. Delicious little sharing plates, friendly staff and a gorgeous garden. Must book as it’s very small and only open Thursday to Saturday evenings

Tasty and good-value food in a bistro ambience. Upstairs is quieter and more intimate - best for the evening. Dogs are welcome at lunchtime. If the restaurant is full you can always pop two doors down to their wine bar, which serves steak or mussels and chips.

So much more than a pub, it's set in nearby Mells and has been here since 1480. You have a choice of several different dining rooms as well as sitting at one of the outside tables in the lovely courtyard in fine weather. The food is delicious and there is lots of atmosphere.

You’d never expect to find a bakery inside a converted church! You can buy delicious bread and other food, or sit down at a table for tea or coffee, a salad or sandwich. It’s conveniently located near the top of Catherine Hill.

An unusual pub with creative decoration and lots of atmosphere. The food is Uruguayan, which is unexpected to find in a pub! Steaks are a speciality.

Shopping

Lots of independent shops - in fact nearly all of the shops, cafes and restaurants on both Cheap Street and Catherine Hill are independently owned.
Frome is well-known as a bustling and creative market town, and it has weekly and monthly markets. Frome Independent Market takes place on the first Sunday of every month between March and December. It's without a doubt the best market we have ever been to in the UK! There are general markets every Wednesday and Saturday 9am-3pm, with stalls in the Cattle Market Car Park by the Cheese and Grain and at the bottom of Cheap Street. You can find out more on the Frome Weekly Market Facebook page. The Frome Country Market, full of local produce, plants, crafts and art, takes place every Thursday in the Cheese and Grain. The Frome Collectors and Flea Market, every Wednesday, sells quality second-hand goods, antiques and collectibles.

Entertainment

There are so many venues here, we are spoilt for choice. Best known is the Cheese & Grain (which has hosted Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Wolf Alice, Robert Plant). Then there's the Merlin Theatre (which has hosted performance poet Roger McGough, as well as a number of stand-up comedians), Frome Memorial Theatre and the outdoors ECOS amphitheatre.
Hosts regular gigs - from music to comedy. If you want an evening out - make sure you book in advance.
