Sightseeing

If you love hiking but not all the packing and heavy gear that goes with it, this is your walk. A 45 minute (one way) heart pumper with amazing views of Quorn. Take a pack with water and some nibbles and drive just out of town to start the trail. Our favourite afternoon leg stretcher, some rock climbing and scrambling required at the top. Gets windy, is awesome!

Who doesn't love a stern Dutchman?! Ummm.... Maybe leave him behind. Grab your grannie and do this hike - a beautiful, quite easy if you have basic fitness ( maybe not for kids) but quite solid day hike - pack a lunch and have a snooze halfway - sensational views, great changing landscapes, fresh clean air, you'll feel very righteous finishing this and duty-bound to drink a cold beer on completion.

One of the best things about our little town. Historic immaculately kept steam trains are immensely old-fashioned and therefore compelling and very unique to Quorn's time and place in history. Learn how this region once functioned as a major South Australian trading centre and how trains powered by coal operated steam trains opened up the inland regions to the rest of the world, by transporting wool, grain, coal and people from the region onto ships and around the world, during the first global Industrial Revolution. Bookings online each year, they sell out fast. Must do, goes to Port Augusta return, or do a lunch ride to Woolshed Flat.

Home of CJ Dennis and Golden North icecream, Laura is a beautiful historic town on the drive up to Quorn on the 'back road' route. Fill up with fuel, grab a coffee, check out the shops, play in the playground and stretch your legs.

Food scene

In Port Augusta. Carly and Brad own this cool little cafe with healthy food, awesome coffee and cakes, great breakfasts and a good west-side vibe - who can believe no-one else in Port has cottoned on? Go say hi and tell them Sue sent you :)

We recommend the Trannie for food, buy over the counter wine and beer to take away. Good honest pub food, great value, no fancy pants, just go, be yourself and be fed! We love the Surf and Turf. Very cosy in winter with fires going and family friendly. Often many club football players drinking here on weekends.

In Quorn. Mention the word TRIPLETS and get 10% off your bill. Just for Shackies. Quandongs! So good for you, native food and specialty of the region. Full of vitamin C, quite rare outside of SA. Try the Quandong Pie, a bit expensive but tasty. If you like rhubarb, you will love the tangy quandong flavour.

In Quorn. Very proper, old school cup of tea. Very nice. We love tea, sitting outside and watching the world go by. Seems like a lot of people do!
