Food Scene

Hip ambience and fantastic food. Often music. The kitchen is now run by Clemente (formerly of Ristorante Clemente across town) and he does a great job.

Another hip scene in Sulmona. Fantastic place for drinks and apps, but very good food as well, for both unch and dinner.

This is a truly Abruzzese experience! Book with chef-owner Luca for Sunday brunch and stay for three hours as he brings you course after course (no menu) of delicious appetizers, pasta, local meats and cheeses and more. Local wines and plenty of experiences to write home about.

This is our absolute favorite in Sulmona! Lunch only; no Sunday openings. Two brothers run the front of the house while mamma cooks in the kitchen. Elegant but not pretentious. Local cuisine, very fine wines. A little pricey for lunch but worth a splurge now and again.

Always in the process of restoration, still this gorgeous complex is the home of traveling art exhibitions and is a stunning place to behold all on its own. If you're lucky, you'll even get to hear a concert there.

A wonderfully restored hill town with great little shops and a fantastic restaurant (Sextantio). Stay at Case della Posta for a night and enjoy host Amalia and her amazing mamma, Aida. If you're lucky, they'll offer a cooking class!

Parks & Nature

Not exactly a park, but an agriturismo where the owner, Nuncio, raises sheep, goats, pigs and more -- and makes the best damned cheese this side of the French countryside! Nunzio can also arrange for a walk with the shepherds -- the "transhumanza" in June. And yes, you can actually adopt a sheep!
