Surfing

Surfing is tide dependent. High tide varies by 1 hour each day. 12ish hours between high tides. Check out magicseaweed.com for Jersey surf reports, or get in touch with one of the local surf schools. Little Joe’s is recommended as a good place to start. https://www.jersey.com/little-joes-shop-surf-school There are plenty of spots to rent boards and wetsuits on St Ouen’s Bay. For experience surfers, maybe you’ll get lucky and the Petit Port Reef will be working, just down the hill from here… St Ouen’s is the usual surf spot, but when it gets very large swells, St Brelade’s Bay and Plemont also start working.

Beaches

Beaches The closest bay, Petit Port Bay, is just down the hill, 5 mins walk. If you look out for the foot path on the right as you are heading down the hill, you can walk there via the trees. This beach is gorgeous for swimming on a high tide (if there is not too much swell) or on a low tide you can walk very far out and explore the rock pools. You can’t really swim there on a low tide, it’s too shallow. If you take the cliff path towards the right, you reach St Ouen’s Bay / La Pulente area. There is a nice spot for a hot chocolate about 20 mins walk along the cliff path at La Pulente. Beauport is a beautiful hidden beach down lots of steps, about a 7 minute drive away. St Ouen’s Bay is the wild and rugged west coast, suitable for surfing, sunset watching, and experienced swimmers. Le Port, near the Waterspash Bar, has a fun and busy atmosphere with campers on sunny weekends. St Brelade’s Bay is more of a traditional busy beach which is more suited for kids and sunbathing. Plemont is accessed via the opposite end of St Ouen’s Bay and is stunning. Completely disappears on a high tide so time carefully. Amazing cliffs and rock pools. Corbiere Lighthouse, not much beach here but when the tide is low you can walk all the way to the lighthouse which is fun. There is also lovely Jersey Ice cream van parked there when the weather gets warmer. A must see spot for tourists!
