Lisbon’s Ajuda Botanical Garden is a living work of art waiting to be explored. In this hands-on outdoor drawing workshop, you’ll experience the garden’s rich history and natural beauty through the eyes of an artist.
• Our session begins with an introduction to Ajuda Botanical Garden, located on the grounds of Ajuda Palace, which overlooks the Tagus River and was designed in the 18th century as a retreat for Portugal’s princes.
• Stroll through terraced landscapes filled with exotic plants from Portugal’s former colonies—Angola, Brazil, and Cape Verde. Along the way, discover how Baroque architecture and the light reflecting off the Atlantic Ocean have influenced the artistic process in Lisbon.
• Find your perfect sketching spot among centuries-old trees, where I’ll introduce a drawing method focused on perception, patterns, and textures. With personalized guidance, you'll explore techniques that enhance observation and creativity.
• We’ll wrap up the experience by sharing and reflecting on your artwork, and as a final touch, you’ll take home not only your drawings but also a locally sourced “magic pencil” to continue your artistic journey.
Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned sketcher, this session blends artistic practice with an intimate journey through one of Lisbon’s historic landscapes.
