A short walk off the Royal Mile we'll climb the steps down to Barrie's Close, one of Edinburgh's oldest streets, and access underground vaults from 1693. Down in the vaults we'll share the story of Edinburgh's "Charmed Water" and discover the story of Scotland's traditional beer and whisky. You'll sample a traditional sweet and malty Scotch Ale as well as local whisky. We'll then have behind the scenes access to the building above us - an old jail. We'll see the prisoner graffiti and visit one of the cells. Wandering through the bustling Cowgate and Grassmarket we'll find ourselves at an old church now Edinburgh's newest brewpub. On the rooftop, we'll enjoy spectacular views of the castle and beer brewed on-site. Stay on to enjoy the views and the company of your new friends or head out exploring with our personalised recommendations.
Sara, Jenny & Lisa
We are Sara and Jenny from ScotBeer. Two years ago we met at a beer tasting and decided to work together. Since then we've served about 51,000 samples of Scottish beer. Many people tell us that our tastings feel like hanging out with old friends. Jenny is a Shetlander, a Beer Cicerone and food scientist currently studying for a Masters in Gastronomy. She's a keen homebrewer and once recreated an old recipe for chicken beer! She is a judge for the Scottish Beer Awards and Glasgow's Barras Beer Bash. She is also a local history expert and as a committee member of the Scottish Brewing Archive, works to tell the history of Scotland through beer. Together we've trained top hotels like The Lovat how to run immersive tasting experiences. We look forward to making new friends feel like old friends over delicious food and drink.

At our first stop we have exclusive access to the vaults on Barrie's Close and permission to take you behind the scenes at the former jail that sits above them and now operates as a hotel. Our second venue is an old church recently converted into a 3 storey bar and brewery with a secret roof terrace overlooking the castle.
